SSS calamity loan: who qualifies, how much, how to apply
This page is for an SSS member whose home or workplace is in an area hit by a typhoon, flood, earthquake or other calamity and declared as such. At the end you will know whether you qualify, how big the loan can be, what it costs, and how to prepare the application.
PhilForms fills the form; you apply with SSS yourself.
Online first
SSS says a member files the calamity loan application online, through the My.SSS account on the SSS website or the MySSS mobile app (SSS Calamity Loan). The paper form below is SSS's older Calamity Loan Assistance application (SSS calamity loan application form). Use it to prepare and check your details; ask your SSS branch whether paper is accepted for your case.
Who qualifies
SSS lists these conditions (SSS Calamity Loan):
Condition · What SSS says; Where you live or work · Your registered home address in the SSS record is in an area declared under a state of calamity, or your employer is located in one, at the time of the event; Contributions · At least 36 posted monthly contributions, 6 of them within the last 12 months before the month you apply; Self-employed, voluntary, non-working spouse, land-based OFW · Also at least 6 posted contributions under your current membership type; Age · Of legal age and under 65 when you apply; Other loans · No past-due calamity or salary loan (including SLERP and EALP) or other member loan, and no outstanding restructured loan; Final benefit · None granted, unless it was cancelled before you apply (re-employment, resumed self-employment, recovery from disability); Account · Updated contact information, and an active disbursement account enrolled in DAEM on My.SSS
For an employed member, the employer must be up to date in contributions and loan remittances, and certifies the application online through its own My.SSS account (SSS Calamity Loan).
How much, and what it costs
From the SSS page (SSS Calamity Loan):
- Amount: the average of your 12 latest posted Monthly Salary Credits, rounded to the next higher MSC, or the amount you applied for, whichever is lower. - Interest: 7% a year on the diminishing balance for a first loan, or a renewal without penalty condonation in the past five years; 10% for a renewal with penalty condonation in that period. SSS says the rate may change and will be announced. - Deducted in advance: a 1% service fee, pro-rated interest up to the month before your first amortization, and the balance of any earlier calamity loan. - Repayment: 24 equal monthly amortizations, starting the second month after approval. Each month's payment is due on or before the last day of the following month. A late payment bears a 1% penalty a month.
The money goes to your UMID-ATM card or to a bank account in your name enrolled in DAEM.
Step by step on the paper form
Open the SSS calamity loan application and print in capital letters.
Member data. SS number, common reference number if any, date of birth, TIN, full name, home address, mailing address, mobile and telephone numbers, email, and a foreign address only if you have one. Match the name and birth date to your SSS record.
Payment. Choose how the proceeds are released (UMID or a cash card) and, for a cash card, your preferred bank.
Certification. Write the name of the calamity and its date, the amount, then print your name, sign and date. SSS requires every applicant to attest that their registered home address, or their employer, is in the declared area (SSS Calamity Loan).
Employer. For employed members only: employer ID number, TIN, name, type of employer, address, contact details and the signature of the authorized officer with position title and date. Your employer fills this, not you.
The bottom strip is the acknowledgement stub with your SS number and name.
Mistakes that stop a calamity loan
- Your SSS record still shows an old address outside the declared area. SSS says to update contact details on My.SSS or with the E-4 form (SSS Calamity Loan). - No DAEM-enrolled disbursement account, so there is nowhere to send the money. - A past-due salary loan. Settle it first (SSS salary loan guide). - Unposted payments on an old calamity loan. SSS says to reconcile them at a branch before applying, or the deducted balance is treated as final (SSS Calamity Loan).
Questions
Pwede ba akong mag-calamity loan kahit may salary loan ako?
Yes, as long as the salary loan is not past due. SSS's condition is no past-due calamity, salary or other member loan (SSS Calamity Loan).
Magkano ang makukuha ko sa SSS calamity loan?
The average of your 12 latest posted Monthly Salary Credits, rounded up to the next MSC, or what you applied for if lower, minus the 1% fee, pro-rated interest and any old calamity loan balance (SSS Calamity Loan).
Kailan ako puwedeng mag-renew?
Six months after the loan was approved, if it is not past due and your last three amortizations were paid on time. A fully paid loan can be renewed right away on the same condition (SSS Calamity Loan).
Our area was declared but my home address in SSS is old. What now?
SSS checks the registered home address in its record, or your employer's location (SSS Calamity Loan). Update your address first through My.SSS or the E-4 form, then ask the branch how SSS treats an address change made after the calamity.
